  • 8 cups water Add enough to cover the fruit without diluting flavor.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by peeling your orange and carefully separating it into segments.
  2. Next, quarter the apples, removing any cores.
  3. In your slow cooker, combine the orange segments, apple quarters, cinnamon sticks, and ground cloves.
  4. Add sugar to taste and pour in enough water to just cover the fruit mixture.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for 6–7 hours or high for 4 hours.
  6. Once the cooking time is up, remove the lid and take out the cinnamon sticks.
  7. Using a spoon or potato masher, carefully mash the softened fruit mixture to extract more flavor.
  8. Place the cinnamon sticks back into the mixture and allow it to cook for an additional hour on low.
  9. After the extra hour of cooking, strain the cider mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a heat-safe pitcher.
  10. Pour your warm spiced apple cider into mugs, garnishing each with a cinnamon stick and an orange slice if desired.
