Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add 1 cup of water to the skillet, followed by 1 teaspoon of dashi powder, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of sake, 1 tablespoon of mirin, 1 tablespoon of ginger juice, and 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  3. Once the sauce simmers, add 8 ounces of thinly sliced beef and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the beef is tender and deep brown.
  4. Prepare bowls of warm, cooked Japanese rice. Spoon the beef and sauce over the rice and garnish with scallions and red pickled ginger.
