Ingredients

For the Beef
  • 1 pound Thinly Sliced Beef (Top Round Roast) Chuck roast or brisket can be substituted.
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Vegetable broth can be a lighter option.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Adjust quantity if using fresh garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
For the Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Plant-based butter works for a dairy-free version.
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour Gluten-free flour blends can be utilized as a substitute.
  • 1 cup Milk Dairy-free alternatives like oat or almond milk are suitable.
  • 1 tablespoon Hot Sauce Adjust to your preferred heat level.
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese Freshly grated cheese melts best; consider dairy-free option.
For Assembly
  • 4 pieces Onion Hamburger Buns Gluten-free buns can be used as an alternative.

Equipment

  • Instant Pot
  • medium saucepan
  • skillet

Method

Preparation
  1. Add thinly sliced beef, beef broth, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the Instant Pot. Stir gently to combine the ingredients evenly.
  2. Secure the lid and set the pressure valve to 'sealing.' Cook on High Pressure for 10 minutes.
  3. After the cooking time is complete, let the pressure release naturally for about 10 minutes. Carefully switch the pressure valve to 'venting' to release any remaining steam.
  4. Your beef should be juicy and fork-tender.
Cheese Sauce
  1. In a medium saucepan, melt unsalted butter over medium heat until bubbly. Gradually stir in all-purpose flour.
  2. Slowly whisk in milk, continuing to stir until the sauce thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in hot sauce and sharp cheddar cheese until fully melted.
Assembling Sandwiches
  1. Spread a thin layer of butter on the insides of the onion hamburger buns and toast them in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Pile the cooked beef high onto the toasted buns, then drizzle the creamy spicy cheese sauce over the beef.
  3. Serve immediately for a comforting meal.
