Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the 9x12-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  3. Cut the French bread into bite-sized cubes and layer half in the baking dish.
  4. Whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and kosher salt in a large bowl.
  5. Combine chopped apples with half of the caramel sauce until well-coated.
  6. Pour half of the custard mixture over the bread cubes, then add half of the apple-caramel mixture.
  7. Repeat the layers with remaining bread, custard, and apple mixture.
  8. Press down on layers, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  9. Bake uncovered for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving, drizzling with additional caramel if desired.
